How We Research, Write and Review

Welcome to Dachshund Living. This page explains who writes the guides on this site, how they are researched, and how we keep them accurate. We want you to know exactly what stands behind every article before you trust it with your dog’s care.

Who writes here

Every guide on Dachshund Living is written and edited by Umar, a long-time dachshund owner who has lived with the breed’s quirks, back problems, stubborn training moments and endless charm for years. Umar is an experienced owner and researcher, not a veterinarian, certified trainer or breeder, and nothing on this site pretends otherwise. Where a topic needs professional knowledge, we say so and point you to the experts.

How we research

Each article starts with the sources vets and breed experts rely on. Breed facts are checked against the American Kennel Club (AKC) breed standard and guidance. Health topics are checked against VCA Animal Hospitals, PetMD, the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and the ASPCA. When a guide makes a health or safety claim, you will find a link to the source inside the article so you can read it yourself.

Health content

Health guides on this site are general information to help you understand a condition and talk to your vet with better questions. They are not a diagnosis and never replace hands-on veterinary care. Every health article ends with the same advice we follow ourselves: if your dachshund shows worrying symptoms, call your own veterinarian. For emergencies such as a dog that cannot walk, drags its back legs or cries out in pain, skip the internet entirely and go straight to an emergency vet.

How we choose products

Product guides, such as our ramp, harness and food roundups, are built from manufacturer specifications, published expert guidance and patterns in verified owner feedback. We do not accept payment for placements, rankings or positive coverage, and no brand sees a guide before it is published. Some links on this site are affiliate links, which is explained on our Disclaimer page; they never change which products we recommend.

Accuracy and updates

Dachshund care guidance changes as veterinary knowledge improves, so we revisit published guides and update them when recommendations change. Each article shows when it was published, and we correct errors as soon as we find them. If you spot something wrong, outdated or unclear, email us at itsumarslap@gmail.com and we will check it against our sources and fix it if needed.
